In honor of the new year, I wanted to share one of my favorite recipes. Wontons are a traditional Chinese dish that can be filled with different things like chicken and shrimp or pork and cabbage. They’re also fun to make because you basically use whatever ingredients you have on hand.
These baked banana wontons are a fun twist on the classic fried wonton. They’re easy to make, and they taste amazing!
If you have leftover wonton wrappers but don’t feel like cooking a savory dish, try these sweet Banana Wontons. It’s a simple dessert dish with a wonton-like appearance. On the exterior, each mouthful is crunchy and crispy, while on the inside, it’s creamy.
It just takes a few items to prepare it: a banana, hazelnut cream, wonton wrappers, and an egg. Fill the wrappers with banana and cream, fold them in half, and cook them. That’s all there is to it.
When you have a sweet tooth but don’t have any baking supplies on hand, this recipe is ideal. It’s a terrific recipe for personalizing as desired, and it’ll be a hit at your next get-together!
Tips
These Banana Wontons can also be baked! Place the triangles on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet (or use a silicone mat). Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and bake for 15 minutes, or until brown. To Airfry the banana wontons, cook them for 5 minutes in a preheated Airfryer until crispy.
Can’t seem to locate wonton wrappers? Spring roll wrappers (egg roll wrappers), phyllo dough, or ravioli dough may also be used.
Take cautious not to overheat the oil. The wonton wrappers will burn too soon as a result of this. Heat the oil to 350°F using a thermometer.
Make sure you select a frying oil that can withstand high heat. Canola, peanut, sunflower, or corn oil are examples of these.
You don’t have to use egg to brush around the borders; water would enough. If you want to make it vegan, follow these steps and make sure to use vegan wonton wrappers.
Whipped cream, ice cream, or caramel sauce may be served with the banana wontons.
Fillings for Banana Wontons
You may try combining the following Ingredients:
- Brie and cranberry preserves
- Strawberries with Nutella
- Strawberry and banana
- Blueberries with bananas
- Orange marmalade with chocolate spread
- Cream cheese with pineapple chunks
- Chocolate chips and bananas
- crème de marshmallows
Instead of triangle wontons, you may mash the banana and wrap it up to form banana “cigars.”
If you want a less sweet alternative, you may use any other nut butter. Almond butter, macadamia butter, or peanut butter all work nicely in this recipe.
If you don’t want it to be as sweet, use plantains for the bananas.
How to Keep Banana Wontons Fresh
Refrigerate the wontons for up to one week if stored in an airtight container. To make them crispy again, reheat them in the oven or in an Airfryer.
